The Frame is Up!

The Frame is Up!
Something of a puzzle at first, but it all came together with little problem. Next step will be adding the glass and polycarbonate panels.

We started with little knowledge of what might be available in the way of hobby greenhouses, but knew we were on to something when we found a used BC Greenhouse on Craigslist. The quality seemed very apparent, though, to be sure, just what we were to make of a pile of glass and aluminum extrusions required a bit of imagination.

Fortunately, the kit was quite complete. It was missing a single pane of glass, which we'll have cut for us in short order, and then there were the missing bolts and nuts needed to to erect the frame (these were graciously provided by BC Greenhouse, gratis, when we let them know of our dilemma).

The major part of the beginnings of this project was the creation of a suitable foundation. While we had the option for a very simple gravel bed upon which to set the foundation wood, Ian went the extra mile and installed a flagstone patio.

The picture at top shows where we are now, with the frame assembled and awaiting its "skin" of glass and polycarbonate roof panels.

Stay tuned for further developments, and word on my first crop!
